| | can not, I say, can not do this! This is a Santa from a roughout that I started last summer and almost threw into the pond...I am trying again but I just can't figure out the arm on the left side or his hands euther. I have looked and looked for a picture of a Santa bent over like this but can not find one anywhere.. You would think that in my hundreds of pictures of Santas there would be one in there..I want to finish this so badly but am so frustrated .. I just can't figure it out and Yes, there was a four sided picture that came with the roughout but not of that area..and the hands are not good enough to figure out either..The right side of his arm was cut too short, but I have carved this little tree that I will put there if I can ever figure out how to the other side.. Does anyone have a picure of a bent over Santa with his hands in the front ? I would appreciate your help so much..Thanks Charlotte |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! Miss Charllotte, I don't know where this roughout comes from but by looking out the picture you posted, to me the right arm and hand are holding the sack of toys over his right shoulder and not able to see the left I would think it would be going back to kind of support the sack???????????????
The sack looks like it is way overloaded and may be kind of neat to have toys /presents spilling out behind him..Just a suggestion. |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! Kenny,my probem is that I can't figure outhow the arm and hands are..evey think seems not enough wood for the arms and hands..I have just got to see a picture of a Santa that is completed so I can see how to plalce the hands and right arm..yes it is holding the sack but it looks defomed the way it gois to the hands.. I was just hoping that some one out there would have a picture of a Santa in this position but I guess I am asking the impossible..I tried to send another picture of him but for some reason it didn't come through..I am ready to carve now as I have finally taken everything downstairs to my new studio...Charlotte |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! maybe you can pose in front of a mirror yourself, and try mimic the pose the santa might have ? this way you can try a lot in a few minutes, and when you compare your pose with the wood available, you probably find what you search... and then let make someone a foto of you for reference...just an idea |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! That is a really "rough" roughout. Where did you aquire it? I've ordered roughouts from several sources, some have much better carving wood then others and some have much more defined features. Some pepole in the business of selling roughouts are much easier to work with then others. I fined some not very ethical in dealing with them. Maybe we need more comments on which are best and not mention the others. |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! I have never purchases a roughout so don't know, but thought the original designer put a sheet with a picture of the completed carving to give you an idea? If not , do you have a picture of that carving completed by the carver? Hard to tell by the roughout what is going on.....if I had it, I would just carve what I saw, and what was possible, not what the designer did...imho |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! Dave has the best answer here. The rough out does not look famalier. If you know the designer he should have a completed exsample . I would try to call, or email him or her with this concern.
I have almost a dozen rough-out designs, which of course I send A 4- view go by sheet with, but every now and then a carver will call or email, and ask for a few differnt photos from different angles, which i will send them. |

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! Perhaps you could get someone to hold a sack in the same manner and take a digital picture of the area you have the problem with. Just a thought.

| | Re: can not, I say, can not do this! Thank you Doris.. but I tried that, as Lynn D suggested that for wrinkles but sense the mirrow is in reverse, my mine wouldn't conceive of the reverse picture.. Not too smart am I .. I just couldn't reverse it! Thanks though..Charlotte | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
