Default Where can I find carving wood?

Hello everyone. My family and I are planning on going to Minneapolis, MN in a few weeks. We will be traveling on I-90 and then north on I-35 to the cities. Does anyone know of a good place along this route that I might be able to find some good basswood carving wood? Or maybe just in Minneapolis somewhere that might have carving supplies. Thanks,

Beeguy

Before you leave, check with

www.rockler.com Â*

They have three stores in the Twin Cites area and stock some wood for carving.

Another is

www.woodcraft.com

there is a store listed there.

I've shopped only at the Rockler on Lynwwood, Av. It was an OK store for carving suplies, but their stock of tools for carving was low when i stopped in

Al

Hi Beeguy,
Here's two of my favorite--they come down to Missouri for shows and sell their wood like crazy.
Heinecke Wood Products
Dale & Tim Heinecke
76 - 27 1/2 Avenue
Cumberland, WI 54829
Ph: 715) 822-8642 or 822-3624

and
Slim's Woodshed
Slim & Maurene Maroushek
160 1st St NW
P O Box 594
Harmony, MN 55939
(507) 886-3114 or 3116

Both have bass, butternut and other woods and I've really enjoyed the quality of all the wood I've gotten from them.
Give them a call and see if they are anywhere close to where you're going.

I'm still not moving well but before the week is over, I'll dig in old issues and get you the info / pattern on the bear.

Have a great trip.

My recommendation within the Mpls area would be the Woodcarvers Store and School, on Excelsior Avenue. It's sort of between the area known as 'Uptown,' and St Louis Park, just north of Lake Calhoun. Â*The Effrem's are top notch people. Â*Here's a link to a map: Â* http://www.woodcarversstore.com/map.html
