a big chunk of bass wood......10 inches wide by 10 inches thick by 3 feet long.....I do buy wood from Heinecke Wood Products up in Wisconsin......but they don't do this large stuff, unless I want to pay a large price for them to glue two pieces together. The guy that I used to get this size wood from died and there isn't any one else close by that has wood....so what can you tell me??? thankx |

That might be hard to find, I could saw a peice but do not have a tree that large. Your best bet is most likely going to be glueing one up, another problem with that size is it would be hard to dry. It could take a long time and to find a peice that size that is clear with good carving grain, I wish ya good luck. The guy who you used to get it from didn't have any kind of stash or he just sawed it up when ya needed it? Carl

The fellow that had the business was Kevin Kyle, his business was Kyle Wood located NE of Parkersburg, IA. He was a tree man from the word go.....he planted lots of trees and had a large woods behind his place. And he sawed up trees for others as well. He sawed up lots of bass wood and took lots of loads of it to Colorado for the professional carvers out there to use in the classes that they taught. After he died, his son tried to take over, but he just didn't have the same savvy that he dad did.....I got a few pieces of wood from him. Then he just up and quit, joined the Air Force I guess. As far as the remaining wood that Kevin had on hand, well I don't know what ever happened to that. But when I'd go out to see him, we'd go in to the shed where he kept the sawed up lumber.....some of the pieces that I got from him were 10 inches thick by 10 foot long.....I had to have him chain saw it in to pieces so that I could get it in my car. I guess from now on, I'll just glue it together and hope for the best. |

It's actually more stable if you glue it up...so...having trouble finding wood that big may be a blessing in disguise. Bob |
