Default Where can I buy large blocks of wood?

I've begun looking into a project and have decided I'm going to need a block of wood of size 7"x7"x18". All the lumberyards I've checked and online dealers don't seem to have any suitable wood of this size. Preferably it would be either birch or maple. If anyone knows of a place online or elsewhere where I could order wood like this please let me know. Thanks!

I've bought a few pieces of hardwood from Colonial Hardwoods but none that size. You might give him a call and ask what he has in that size range. I also don't know if he'll ship from Springfield to where ever you're at, but you can ask that also.

The best source for wood of the size you'd like is a local tree business (lumber yards and home centers do not carry 10x10x10 pieces, dealing mostly with construction lumber and smaller craft pieces) Talk to the owner about what you want, and price, as they have access to all types of wood and will often be much cheaper than on-line dealers. They will also likely be able to cut wood to particular dimensions or sizes wanted.
