Default Can anyone identify this carving?

This was found in the basement of a local high school in Tucson Arizona. There are no marks or initials of any kind. It is carved from wood...no one has any idea of the age.

The local Native American consensus is that it is a cursed sculpture.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Cursed????? C'mon, lets get real. Given that it was found in the basement of a high school, I'd be more than willing to bet it was done by a student in an art class. I sat on the local school board for over 10 years and was surprised at what all wound up in "storage" every year when the custodial staff made their final clean-up after school let out; and even more surprised at some of the art projects students were capable of producing.

That even looks like a theme a gifted student would persue, and although it is nicely done, it seems, to me anyway, to have some of the unsophisticated elements of a developing artist.

I opened the photo prior to reading the message. My immediate thought was, "this is a different interpretation of an eagle dancer". Then read that it came from Tucson (an area with a lot of Native American influence) and a High School (explains some art student trying a different approach). I cannot imagine why anyone, Native American included, would think a carving as cursed. I suppose, in this case, it is the emphasis on facial structure and muscles.

I agree with Al, a budding artist. I suspect that someone in the Tuscon art communitiy can provide the answer and it will be found that the carver is known at least locally.

I'll follow with the student carving and put in storage.. I go to the local college and search for what is going to be discarded..Some of the junk I bring home is excellent..I have a "buffalo horn" vase done by an invited artist , years ago and now worth a few dollars. This time I picked up an almost life sized head and shoulders in green glazed ceramic..It is in my carrot patch as a scare rabbit..Works...............Cordially Nad
