| | Re: Butterfly Kachina Deborah & Mel Thank you both so much also--there is so much about these dolls I love. I have to be very careful and respectful about these dolls as they are spiritual symbols to the Native Americans. While working on them I usually listen to Native American music. Somehow it helps we carve and have respectful feelings for them. It was hard to let go of the little Cradle Dolls I carved for the 'Ornament Exchange' as I became attached to each one I carved and painted. I knew though they would be going to good homes.

| | Re: Butterfly Kachina Hi Kathy,
it's absolutely lovely - such colours and , to my eye, the little fellow has real attitude. I think anyone from that culture would recognise your love and respect for the genre and be pleased by your work. I've been inspired by carvings from the tribes of Papua New Guinea and I think it's OK to respond to their work because we're all part of a bigger human tribe.

| | Re: Butterfly Kachina Hi Eleanor, thank you for your nice comments I apppreciate them very much. There is just something really special about these dolls.
Also, I have your ornament packed and ready to mail--if this rain will let up I'll head for the post office. I sealed it up before I added a little note...so will send the note to your WCI message INBOX.
Best,

| | Re: Butterfly Kachina Hi All, my little Butterfly Kachina won a 2nd Place ribbon at the Yavapai, Arizona County Fair this weekend. It's my first figure carving ribbon and I'm so proud. Just had to share my good news.

| | Re: Butterfly Kachina Susan, Tom H, Eleanor, Al, Dave Thank you all, your congratulations mean so much to me. As the ribbons I won at the fair are very special as they are my first carving ribbons. This little kachina is so much fun to carve and paint. I'm actually in the process of making three more for my two granddaughters and daughter for Christmas. Thought I'd check online for some of the glass-domed displays to put them into. Any suggestions where to look? Thoughts of maybe Michaels?
