Default Butterfly Gnome

Rather than keep on whittlin little figures and placing them by themslves, I need to place them into scenes. I am trying to learn from Forrest and the way he incorporates figures into scenes. The only trouble with this is that when you try to carve the figure small, the scene becomes even smaller. The butterfly and mushroom were a fun challenge.

That mushroom/butterfly is incredible. I can carve reasonably small (although not to the quality you do), but that thing is TINY!! Do you use some sort of magnification when you go that small?

Congrats on a fine, small carving.

Thanks Slowmover, oh yes! I need and use all the help I can muster. Carve the small things first thing in the morning when eyes are fresh. With a large cup of coffee to steady my hands. Fresh strop of the pocket knife. And, yes, sometimes if I am at the bench I use one of those lighted magnified lens, if not must have direct sunlight. Thanks agai.

Awesome, Tom, in a tiny way
It is amazing how you and Forrest can paint these itty bitty things
and do such a fine job
My hands just aren't that steady

It is a joy to view your work Tom and I am always amazed at how small of a piece you carved. Guess, being all thumbs eliminates me from carving so small.
I love this little scene you have and it is another excellent piece.
Definitely have to have a very sharp knife to carve that small.
You continue to lift the carving bar for the rest of use!
