I was requested to carve a character with whiskers wearing a ball cap so here is what developed. The wood is birch and stands approx. 3ft tall. You'll notice that I am now painting my carvings now...something new for me. There is one coat of oil so far and I am yet to add the sealer and then the wax which will soften the paint but bring out the details. I tried blue eyes for the first time for something different. I've been told that the color of his eyes gives him a less mountain man appearance and makes him less harsh looking. Anyway, he's going to find a home soon. Thanks for looking. Patrick |

Patrick, As usual I am impressed. Just love the progression in your carvings love the paint really enhances the carving. Again it is your style I have told you a thousand times I would know it anywhere. Great job my friend I am impressed. Colin

Thanks everyone. I hope it inspires our new carvers (and there seems to be a lot of them on the board lately) as all of your pics kept me motivated to continue practicing. Patrick |

Patrick: If you don't mind a suggestion, take a sharp toothpick and put a very very very small dot of white paint in a corner (I'd suggest upper-right) of each eye to represent the reflection of light from the surface of the eye...then finish as you plan... Claude |

I think I need a bigger tooth pick because if you look at the lower corner of his pupil (look real hard), there is supposed to be a white freck there. I don't have a photo with a close up to show you...but having said that, I need to make it bigger anyway because even I can't see it and I know it's there. Good feedback. When I add the dark satin wax, it would be even harder to see. Oh well, back to the shop. Hammer Patrick |
