Default Building Up Carving Blocks

I live in the Toronto Ont. area. I usually carve larger projects. Up to now I have carved most projects out of large logs. This is disappointing at times as there is no reliable way to stop them from checking. I have been gluing up basswood planks into large blocks and this has worked out very well. The only problem is my carving shop is quite small and not having a band saw, planer. edger, makes this job very difficult. Does anyone know of a do it yourself wood shop in this area where I could plane and glue up my blanks, without having to purchase an entire wood shop?

Bill

They have offered adult woodshop class taught at night at the high schools -- under the guises of continuing education. Maybe you have a community college nearby that teaches such classes?

That's what I would check if I were in your shoes.
