Merle... I've been off the web for a couple of days. I sure hope that your surgery turned out well. I worked for the VA just shy of 30 years and I can tell you that it offers some of the best medical treatment in the country, bar none. You didn't say which hospital you were going to but off hand I can't think of any of the VA's that I wouldn't go to. They've been treating me for migraines for years. Don't know what I'd do without them.

Forest... Mountain Home is a great VA. We had a lot of Mountain Home guys relocate to Bay Pines over the years and I never heard a bad thing about it. In fact, back in the early 70's I tried to get a transfer up there. Ended up with a promotion where I was so I never tried again.

Yea Ed I like it at Mtn Home plus Ive always gotten good care and treatment there. But I do find it really strange?? Mtn Home VA is inside Johnson City Tn but the VA has its own zip code which is different than Johnson City Tn.

Thks Ed for your thoughts.

Hi Ed, Everything turned out just fine thanks. The VA. center is in Martinsburg, West Va.. I have been going there for years and not one complaint about it. Always treated like royalty. In fact whenever I get inside the walls of the center I am relaxed, feeling I,m in good hands. Merle

TN... Nothing strange about that (different zip codes). Most of the VA's have their own zip codes, especially the ones that were built early on and have their own post office on site. Most of the VA's operate a mail out pharmacy which generates a lot of mail, not to mention prosthetics, appointments and general business. The postal requirements of a VA facility in all likelyhood exceed those of a moderately size comeercial enterprise.

Merle... I'm very gald to hear that everything turned out for the best. I know of Martinsburg but I've never been there. I worked with a number of VA Central Office Resident Engineers who had been on site there at one time or another. I agree about your feeling of peace and feeling relaxed. My situation was a little different. My job was extremely high stress and eventually that stress got to me and I had to retire. It was a number of years before I felt at ease going back but now I look forward to my trips when I have an appointment. I stop off and see the old gang and then wander the hallways observing the changes that have taken place since I left. There is no doubt that the VA has the capability to handle any emergency.
