I've been pondering on carving the Buddha and don't want to make a career of carving the curls of hair. Their typical shape looks like it could be made with an ice carvers bubble bit. Anyone used these in wood?

Good luck Butch! I tried my hand at a Buddha and it came out looking like a cross between Jimmy Durante and Elmer Fudd! After that I figured I'd leave the Buddha carving to the Thai's and Chinese!

I'll probably try cracking the Asian Immigrant market by carving Ho Tai first. {Ho Tai is the fat guy Christians mistakenly call Buddha.} He doesn't have hair and I won't have to maintain correct hand gestures. I do think there is a big market for these philosophers.

That`s a cool tool (pun intended). Do they make any in 1/16 or 1/8 inch? that would be great for bead work. Vince

Butch....someone asked me about a year ago to carve them a Budda, and I said I would if the inspiration comes to me. Well it hasn't so I'd like to see how yours turns out as it might give me the courage to try one. Patrick |

That is going to be my next project. I've wanted to carve him for a long time. I have painted him for murals and I know there is a formula used in rendering him. That's to insure accuracy and becomes quite meditative. I will look for it and post here if I find it. Tim |
