Default Bubble Bits

I've been pondering on carving the Buddha and don't want to make a career of carving the curls of hair. Their typical shape looks like it could be made with an ice carvers bubble bit. Anyone used these in wood?

Good luck Butch! I tried my hand at a Buddha and it came out looking like a cross between Jimmy Durante and Elmer Fudd! After that I figured I'd leave the Buddha carving to the Thai's and Chinese!

I'll probably try cracking the Asian Immigrant market by carving Ho Tai first. {Ho Tai is the fat guy Christians mistakenly call Buddha.} He doesn't have hair and I won't have to maintain correct hand gestures. I do think there is a big market for these philosophers.

That`s a cool tool (pun intended). Do they make any in 1/16 or 1/8 inch? that would be great for bead work. Vince

This is the only place I've seen them for sale and their smallest makes a nickle sized bubble. I think I could make my own by re-grinding a paddle bit.

Butch....someone asked me about a year ago to carve them a Budda, and I said I would if the inspiration comes to me. Well it hasn't so I'd like to see how yours turns out as it might give me the courage to try one.

That is going to be my next project. I've wanted to carve him for a long time. I have painted him for murals and I know there is a formula used in rendering him. That's to insure accuracy and becomes quite meditative. I will look for it and post here if I find it.
