| | Brown Trout n drift wood This was alot harder to paint than I thought, seeing Ive never seen or carved a brown trout. Theres alot of different types of trout fish and even with a brown trout the colors can & do change in different parts of the USA.
I enjoyed finding and carving this trout in this olde drift wood ,I found last Dec. in the Mississippi river at Memphis.
I need to try in apply some type of finish on him now but I know the old wood wont take much of a finish around the boarders I left un carved or painted. Hes 2 3/4 X 7 inches and relief carved and painted.
Your comments as always are welcome & appreciated. Tn~

| | Re: Brown Trout n drift wood Very nice job on the brown trout! It really looks good, and the scenery really sets it off.
You are wrong, though, about that driftwood not taking a finish. When I use driftwood for a base for a carving I seal it first with Cabot's sanding sealer followed up after that dries well, with Krylon spray acrylic. When painting only part of the carving, like you did, I use only the Krylon. I use Krylon because you can re-coat at any time. Most other finishes require that you recoat within an hour or wait 5 days.......pain in the keester. I like the satin finish, but there are also gloss and semi-gloss available. \
Try that spray Krylon, I think you'll like it!

I hope and think, least Im getting a little better with carving & painting the willd life here in my area now! Cause theres no riverboats and cotton fields here!! LOL
Thanks so much for noticing Bart.

| | Re: Brown Trout n drift wood TN, very nice job on that brown trout. You will find out that most fish look or have different color from lake to lake, stream to stream. Someone will tell you the color is wrong then the next will tell you that they caught one just like it. Very nice. Evan |
