Default Brass Rod

I plan to try a variant on this box:
Simple Bandsaw Box Making 101

Does anyone know where I can get 1/4" brass rod?

Thanks
Don

Don, check at your local ACE or Tru-Valu hardware. Both of them around here stock 1/4" brass rod. If not there, try any local hobby shop, model train store or model airplane store.

Or if all else fails, check with a welding shop and ask them for 1/4" uncoated brazing rod......if you don't mind flaking flux off coated rod, that will work, too.

Looks to me like the rod is hidden? Assuming a smallish box, not a blanket chest, any metal rod would do and so would hardwood dowels- just finish or wax the dowel before inserting in the hole to keep the glue from sticking.

Make sure to plenty of glue as the end grain will really suck it up.

Check your local welding supply house, they will have them and they will be cheaper than hardware or hobby stores. They are used for brass brazing, come in all sizes from about 1/16" and up.

Don't know where you're at, but I've bought 1/4" brass at Lowes, Home Depot may have it, too.
BTW, I'm near OK City.
