Default Boy....what a bummer......

I'm making a carving of me riding my recumbent tricycle.

It's taken three tries to get the my body carved right.....which translates in to three blocks of bass wood cut, two totally wasted and the last a keeper.....ah, unless, of course, I screw it up.

As of this morning's session in the basement work shop, I'm thinking that I should be able to post a picture of it early next week.

I would go with a glue up. If you were to carve a "log", it would have to be as seasoned as much as possible and then the pith would need to be removed since this is what the wood shrinks around and helps in causing the checking we all are familiar with.
Please, if someone knows a way to carve a whole log, please explain the process as the reason above is why I don't. Had to many rejects from the checking and did not want them in the piece.

I'm FINALLY in the ball park as of this a.m. So hope fully I'll have it finished over the up coming week end.

A glue up is fine if you're working on some thing large. But this carving is only 5 inches wide by 12 inches long,,,,but thanks for the suggestion.

Well It's FINALLY done, as of this a.m. My photographer has taken several pictures of it and we should be able to get it on this site by tomorrow or Wednesday.

Now being as how I have an extra front wheel from the Penny Farthing project, I'm going to make a man riding a unicycle.....
