Default Bottle Stopper Question

I have some corks to make some bottle stoppers. Do you all use 3/8 inch dowels? Do you ever use 1/4 inch dowels?

3/8" is best ... the smaller just wouldn't work.

For stoppers on "full-sized" bottles, I use the 3/8 inch dowel, with either predrilled corks from Woodcraft, or my own old wine corks that I drill and sand down. I've also used dowels as small as 1/8 inch for specialty bottle stoppers such as this one:
