Default Books on Grinling Gibbons

Anybody have either one of these books? If so, can you tell me if their worth $30 or so dollars--either one better than the other? Thanks.

Grinling Gibbons & English Woodcarving Tradition
Frederick Oughton

Grinling Gibbons and the Art of Carving
David Esterly

Bob,

I have both books.

Oughton's book covers the English carvers from about 1100 AD to 1979. Many line drawings and b/w photos. Worth the money IMO.

Esterly's book primarily covers Grinling Gibbons. Many b/w & colored photos.
Again worth the money if you're interested in that style of carving.

Thanks Brian. Can you tell me how much of Oughton's book was devoted to Gibbons? I am looking for drawings as well as photos so I might opt for that book first.

Bob,

Chapter 4 of Oughton's book is devoted to Gibbons, about 80 pages, 17 pages of b/w photos, no drawings.

I believe that Esterly's book would be more to your liking because of the better photos.
