Default blisters on the palm

I had a bit of a problem the other day during the process of carving a new X-Mas centerpiece (I'll share the pics when complete). I developed a major blister right in the middle of my right palm from pushing on several larger chisels. It got so bad that I couldn't continue carving. after going for a bike ride with a buddy of mine, I saw him using a pair of "bicycle gloves". These gloves use a cusioned palm for road vibration and the constant pressure on the hands. Looking at the gloves, they had a very nice leather padding on the middle of the palm. You can all see where I'm going with this. Since then, I always use the right glove for carving as well as riding.

Hope this may help someone and others may share other safety ideas
Bob

You must have really been making some chips? How's the edge on your tools?

I've never gotten blisters from a chisel, I've always gotton them from my knife rubbing my index finger, its now callused enough that it doesn't hurt.

Sounds like a great tip to prevent your blisters (you must have been carving alot!!!) but please don't tell me that you've replaced your safety glove with the riding glove...safety first please plus trips to the ER are costly!!! Ha! Be sure and post a few photos of your centerpiece when you finish it and share with us...

No - I use the riding glove on my right hand - The safety glove goes on the left

I've always learned - never point a the sharp end on anything you dont intend to cut!!!!!
