Just curious - can you glue up a blank for carving? If so, any special glue to use and what would the joint be like to carve? Thanks! (sorry if this has been asked before - I did a search on the forums and just received a "PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" error) |

yeap, just a thin layer of carpenters glue let dry over night and in most cases you will never see the joint just be sure to use wood of the some texture and color if you want it to look the same all over two different shades of Basswood will take paint different

Thanks, will there be any noticable difference when carving the jointed area - will it be harder - or anything to watch out for? Thanks again! |

If clamped up well, you shouldn't hardly see it. If you paint it, you shouldn't notice at all. Experience talking here as I carved half the ears off my first dozen carvings and glue works wonders

| Yea man plain old carpenters wood glue clamped. I could add this if you are working with traditional carving tools make sure the grain is going the same direction. You should be able to feel that with your thumb or make a cut if the tool digs in or runs out make all the pieces run the same way. It’s just a pain if you make a gouge cut and one of the layers digs in instead of runs out. |
