| | Black Beard The Fur Trader Hi All,
Here is my second fur trader, lots of fun and I feel I'm making progress. I used American acrylics--the beard is painted using black, ultramarine blue, touch of brown and lavender highlights. Hat is Santa Red, Burnt Orange. Skin tone medium flesh, burnt sienna, touch of Green into the flesh color for a hairline shadow.
It will be a wall mount and hang with my first Red Beard The Fur Trader in our Guest room. Stand by cause I still have Blond Beard, Brown Beard and Gray Beard to do. LOL
As always I appreciate your thoughts and comments,
Kathy

| | Re: Black Beard The Fur Trader Eddy, Vic, Gene, Cliff, HOBO & Dan:
Thank you all for your nice compliments, I really appreciate them very much. Eddy, Black Beard is just a little taller than Red Beard Black--Beard is 9 1/2" Tall. Cliff, LOL well there is gray beard, brown beard, and all colors in between. Gene, I think mixing more than one color together is part of it. For example when you look at the color black (which is the absence of color) light casting on it isn't just black. If you look at a black animal the light reflects highlights of either blue or violet and sometimes both even brown or red. So if I use a pure black I always add ultramarine blue with one or more of the highlight colors listed above. What this does is to give the fur or hair life, and not just a dull, flat black.
Take care guys, and thanks again
Kathy

| | Re: Black Beard The Fur Trader You could start calling them Sleepy, Grumpy, Sneezy, etc and call them the 7 dwarfs. Try making one of them a multicolored character if you start to run out of primary colors...that would be something to see. Great carving again - thanks for letting us have a look at him.
