Default Black bear fish'n/relief carved

This is another saw mill chunk of rough pine with the bark still on the back of it. "Course" there was a knot in the center where I wanted to carved! But worked around it with this blk bear that caught a trout. Its 6 X 10 inches, water mellon in shape, fixed a small chip behind it where it would sit up.

I hope Im out of knotty wood soon -----lol

Your thoughts or comments are always welcome, Tn~

Nice job in hiding the knot! Was that carved into mostly end grain? From the position of the bark it looks like it was or at least into a steep diagonal of end grain. If it was, your results are amazing! A nice job regardless, end grain or not.

Your carving and your painting is always so well done. I agree with Doris, it is nice how the bark makes a picture frame. It perfectly completes the whole scene.

Yes it was rough wood{Id sanded it several times} and had that knot right where I needed to carve. It wouldnt have set up till I mounted a small chip of apple wood Id saved under the back side. Thank you Millard for your nice comments, glad you liked this bear. Forrest

Yes Doris,I left even a small boarder of the natural wood around at the edges like a mate in a framed pict and you are right, the bark which is sanded in the front had a few nice grains and it became the frame.

Im glad you liked this bear, thanks again for your good comments,I value them going from a true artist as yourself. Forrest

Yes Banjo,I pick wood that have certain things about them that will enhances a carving plus in my area, they love carvings from the raw wood that grows in this mtn area. And leaving the bark on this wood, did make the right frame for it. Thank you always for your input! Forrest
