Default Bird Dog & Quail

After carving the bird dog for the older gentleman,I want to carve me one.

I used hard maple for this carving for I knew it would hold the details I wanted to carve.

The dog is 5 1/4 inches tall and from his ear to the tip of his tail is 4 1/2 inches.
The quail is 3 1/2inches and the whole carving is 8 3/4 inches long.
The base is old wormychestnut. Its painted with acrylics.

It was a fun project and I hope you like it. Now back to work if I ever get theses quail droppings off my desk! LOL

Your thoughts or comments are alway welcome. thks' Forrest

OMG, that is the most gorgeous piece I've seen from you yet!! How on earth did you do that?? Looks like the dog is standing in tall grass and deadfall, having just flushed the quail. Forrest, the dog is something else.....what a sweet face... and the eyes....OMG. Your own perception of how to relate to the piece that your working on is unmatched for your style of artwork!! Are you sure you're going to keep this one? Placed on a fair table, that one would disappear in a heartbeat, no matter what the cost! Just beautiful, my friend.....just beautiful! Bonnie

Bonnie it too will be at my show,if it sells than I can carve another one. It was a fun carving and to get the quail to appear hes flying in mid air was the hardest part. My good friend,Im glad you liked this carving and I'm kinda smiling?

Seems every carving I do,you say its my best! BUTttttttttttt I love your nice thoughts like that for Im still trying to carve the prefect carving for I see so many mistakes in all of my carvings course once I carve something,Im through with it,I dont go back and refix anything.
I always appreciate you Bonnie and your words of prasie! Thanks again so much, Forrest

Hey Forrest, another great one. The dog came out real nice. You could give me lessons on that. I'm still struggling with animal faces, well, all faces.

You sure can put them out. Great.

Animals, wild life, faces, etc. Hey Ron T,my friend you are not alone in the boat by yourself but I practice more and try harder each time. Thats all you can ever do is your best and thats me also.

Ive seen what you can carve and I like your work, every one carves different and I wish I could carve better myself. But thats life in so many ways and its not what you can do,its how hard you keep trying! As for putting them out,I dont know about that,I try to carve as fast as I can. I appreciate you Ron for taken your time always to comment on my carvings and your nice thoughts concerning them. Forrest

P.S as for the dog coming out good, that reminds me? Need to take him outside before he does his business here in my art room! LOL

Hi Forrest- You've sure done another great piece! The eyes on the dog just seem to pop, and I really like the overall effect with that wormy chestnut base. I don't think I've ever seen a piece carved like this before, but I really like it. Way to go, Forrest!

Mark

HEYY Mark, thanks my friend! I try to come up with something different and I'd liked the effect of the old wormychestnut base with the dog in the old brush. The dog looks kinda if hes saying?? Was that a quail that just flew up or what! He has a suprised look about him, course too hes a younger dog not the hunter yet as a older dog would be. Im glad you liked this carving and I sure appreciate you and your nice comments. Forrest
