Default Bigger and Bigger

When I first started carving Santa faces and heads most of them were approx. 3 x 2 inches. The latest one measures around 3 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches. I have notices that some of the carvers here seem to challenge themselves by carving smaller and smaller but I, just like my waistline, tend to get bigger and bigger. Here is a couple of pictures of the latest bigger carving.
Now, it's back to bark carving for which my fingers have been itching for quite awhile.

I agree with bigger is better. I have found the grayer I get the better bigger is.

Millard,

That is a great looking Santa, good job on the pipe as well. I too have begun making my ornaments larger. I chalked mine up to changing eyes. I struggle keeping the carving close enough for the bi-focals or far enough away for the distance portion of the lens. Thanks for sharing.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

Outstanding, as usual, Millard! Wonderful facial work. I admire good face work so much, as I struggle so hard at it, and this Santa is just wonderful! Bonnie

Nicely done. The details are excellent. Good choice of colors. Did you carve the pipe?

Millard, Being a little bigger gives you more access to greater detail, such as I notice the design on the fur trim on his hat and even little folds on the lower lip. As always, you impress me, now you need to fill us in on the pipe, it looks real! Great job

A excellent carving...looks so lifelike it probably belongs in the realistic category rather than in caraciture , and I mean that as a compliment. outstanding detail.
