Default better than money :)

we were set up this past weekend at the farmers and craft market where i usually sell and carve while i'm there as my wife sells her hand sewn and baked goods.we have great vendors by us and we really enjoy doing this and have so much fun. this past saturday a lady came by with her two grand boys who were about 6 and 7 and they were amazed by the woodcarvings and then when they realized i was sitting there doing some while they were there really blew them away, the boys were so fascinated and asked a hundred questions and were super polite very smart well mannered boys. they stayed a bit then left and came back with grandma again and i heard them discussing a carving they wanted to buy,one fer sure wanted it but the other was a lil reluctant to chip in all his money so his brother could have a carving!! fianlly i heard the other brother say maybe he'll be here next time we come and i'll save up my money...i already had pulled two woodspirits out of my bag and was just finishing the eyes on the last one while they were watching me. i asked their names it was gabe and nathan shook both there hands and gave them both a woodspirit..too see their eyes light up was sooo cool they couldn't belive it their grandma was stunned too and thank me over and over they were from out of town visiting her.... both boys hugged me and said thanks and left.. a few minutes later they were back and wanted to know if their was anyway they could take a picture with me!! so big cheessey grins all around and thankful hugs and they left again......how much more than money was that worth?? man i love it!! just thought it was a neat story to share you never know what kind of impression you may make from a simple gesture

That is the coolest story, Daddio. You got way more than money there. Those kids will probably tell all their friends about the nice wood carver they met. They might even get interested in carving themselves.

thanks ed they took a couple of my cards with my email i whished i'd have told them to send me a copy of the pic. i had about the same thing happen a couple years ago at the local pilgrimage they have here with tourist from all over the world and i gave a couple of kids from japan a couple of woodspirits and i could see their parents started to freak out and were digging for money!! with worried looks on their faces, they spoke no english except for the mother who spoke very very lil but we finally conveyed the items were a gift to their kids and they were so relieved!!! and they also wanted pics ,course a real big guy with hair to his waist nearly and beard whose laughing and carrying on all the time may be the draw if it don't scare em too death!! lol i love it man,.. i really do

hi daddio, that is great story...i have also at artshow where i presented my carvings (this was not for selling) had the kids come and be anazed and ask lots of questions (they liked of course the little owl most, not the portraits),,,the grown ups however often did not even care to look...but the kids are great. what a nice story you have now, treasure it in your heart...maybe they come along again, and then you can ask them for that foto...

That was great Daddio! Bet those kids were thrilled to bits! That will be in their memory and re-told all their lives every time someone looks at the pieces you gave them! What a fantastic investment and huge return you made there on true wealth!

Daddio-Big and Hairy,if the kids were afraid your carvings over came that, then your friendly side took over. There will a lot of little things that will bring back a memory of you and your carvings for a long long time. Good for YOU.

Great story! Thanks for sharing. Don't you wish you could be a fly on the wall when they tell their parents about the big Dude they met?

Hi Daddio,

What a great story. You're absolutely right, some things are WAY better than money! You're a good soul.
