Default Bending the wrist.

I've been carving a wizard who is reading a spell book and have gotten to the point of carving the arms and hands. I need to bend the wrist a bit more and am trying to avoid having to carve the whole arm over.

Has anyone tried to steam a small piece of basswood and bend it slightly ( maybe 15 degrees). If so how did you steam it and how well did it bend?

Well I guess no one has tried it, just a note it can be done, 15 minutes sitting in the steam from the tea pot and it bent just fine.

Another method that will let you bend wood is to soak it in amonia for at least a couple of hours and you can move it to any position you want.

Didn't see the post until now.....

I have steamed and bent a small piece of basswood carved as a rope (1/8" diameter) to go around a flagpole with some success. So, it was 180 degrees in about 1/2" radius.

Thanks for posting your results.
