Anyone have a idea of the average weight for basswood per bdft. I caculated it as being 2.8 pounds per bdft....I got a real winner on ebay and has put a negative feedback that I am charging 2x the amount for shipping lol....Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone shipping with UPS make sure to put it to the next size up the inches off up the next higher one example 2.5 would be 3 inchs.. Ups doesn't measure it to exact size. I also found they add fuel surcharges and a $7.00 handling fee for items over 50 pounds. Thanks again for your any adivce you may give in the future. You probably just got the blunt of someone that is tired of being ripped off on shipping, I have been there, now I send the seller a note telling them their shipping is out of line, either they fix it or agree to a reasonable fee, or I don't buy.....lot of them make more off shipping than they do the item! for example, it costs about 1.38 to send a carving book via postal bookrate.....how many are charging anywhere up to 5.95? Just venting, doesn't answer your question and doesn't help, sorry..........!

What he accuses me of is what he has done LOL>......I dont cheat, lie or anything that would hurt future sales. He never contacted me prior to buying on shipping cost.. .....Some people think packages wrap thierselves and then walk to ups and ship thierselves out.....how about the cost of material.tape,packaging,Etc......If I could I would just shrink wrap and ship it. UPS doesn't allow that.... 101 perfect feedback and this yahoo had o vent his frustration out on me over shipping.......even after not contacting prior to shipping lol....... How about this item is buy it now 99 cents....shipping $9.00 lol........nothing is free.... if so there is something wrong with it.... Last edited by Mryooper; 08-10-2005 at 11:44 AM. |

Pat, My copy of WOOD IDENTIFICATION AND USE by Terry Potter says Dry basswood weighs 26 lb. per cubic foot. That should be 12 board feet, or 2.17 lbs per board foot (1"x12"x12"). I've sure been burnt on shipping, buying wood on ebay! I won't buy unless they charge actual shipping or at least clearly show the shipping cost in their listing. He should have talked with you before leaving a negative in any case! Hope you get it worked out! Good Luck! Wade Last edited by wade clark; 08-10-2005 at 11:57 AM. |

What I have done in the past iis get a receipt form the postal office and send it out added to the bill with attached letter. That way, They see the cost of shipping also. Of course, That doesn't keep them from Complaining, but then, it also shows the complainer up for what they are. I have used this method several times on Blocks of basswood. I had one customerwho complained about a 2 3/4x5 3/4 x 24 inch block of basswood for $10 and 12 bucks postage and I sent him the receipt. He says he is the customer and he is right. However, I have found, the customer isn't always right. But then, my prices are subject to change according to the attitude of the customer. Maybe he can get his own basswood

Second did you clearly explain the shipping & handling cost in the item description? If so he has nothing to complain about and ebay will probably allow the neg feedback to be removed. As for the shipping cost on items. If I can not find it or calculate it I will not bid. On the auctions that I have I usually charge $1-2 for packaging and standing in line at the post office, plus the calculated ship weight from the ebay site.
