Default basswood cants

Not to sure if any of you have used basswood cants for pallets or not. I grabbed up 2 last winter from the sawmill and they seem to be nice. You can see the heartwood on the end , but it far enough to a corner it probable could be still used. Very creamy white wood as well. WOuld a cant be good to use if the heart was dead center of it? cants is about 4x4x18 now that I have but do come in 4ft sections.
