Default Bark Ville

Title: Bark Ville
Medium: Arizona Fremont Cottonwood Bark
Size: 18" Tall x 6" Wide x 2 1/2" Thick
Finish: Deft Satin Laquer, Watco Neutral Wax

Hi All:
A little change of pace from the Wood Spirits. I decided to carve a grouping of little houses. Found a piece of Cottonwood Bark that was perfect for a grouping of these whimical little houses. I'm including two close-ups of the top and bottom.
I love carving bark it takes much less pressure on the knife and gouges to slice right though the bark. Also, I love the smell of Cottonwood, kind of like Cedar only milder. Very pleasant.
As always I enjoy hearing from you, and happy to answer any questions you might have.
Kathy

Kenny, thank you!
I remember the really nice bark house carvings you and your wife had in my Guest Artist Gallery. I thought then at some point I'd like to try one myself. Finally I did it!

Sharon, thank you, I was thinking while carving these little houses about being small enough to live in one too.

Jim, thank you also, I wanted the rocks to have that jagged cliff appearance--they were fun to do.

Thanks again everyone,
Kathy

That is precious. So much to look at in a small space. Great idea to make a village.

Kathy,

Wow! Fantastic job on your "Bark (Small) Ville." As an architectural draftsmen I really appreciate the layout and grouping of the houses. Did you draw it out on paper first to size or just work directly on the bark?

Either way it is a super job. Well done again.

Elliott

Very Awesome job.. I really like the detail in it and the bark kind of looks like stone... for sharing.

Kathy: These are really neat. I've always liked these little whimsical bark houses. I will have to try my hand at one sometime. An old worn out face is all I've produced in bark.
