Default Bark Houses

Hi All:
Been busy carving whimical bark houses for California and Oregon family. So I thought I'd share them with you. What a hoot these whimical houses are to carve. Really makes you use your imagination and carving skills from start to finish. Speaking of finish I used Danish Oil Natural and Deft Satin Spray laquer. It really brought out the rich grain and color of the Arizona Cottonwood. Sizes are listed on the image next to each one.
As you can see one isn't a house, but a Wizard. Like Don By The Lake my wizard also started out as a house, but just wasn't working out. So given the shape I thought hey I see a wizard forming. So Wizard it is! LOL Guess the wood was talking to me!
As always I enjoy hearing from you,
Kathy

Kathy, WOW! I really like the houses, no, the wizard, no the houses, no the wizard. Heck they're all fantastic. If you ever think outside the cottonwood bark "box", you may want to try a very light color watered down green wash to simulate moss, on the rocks, foundation, and/or roof. But yours really don't need anything.

Kathy,
Very nice work on all of your bark peices. I say peices because they are works of art. Not just carvings. When you create something no one else has done that is art! Takes a special eye to see things like you carved. A+ job!

Tom H & Don

Thank you both so much, ya know how to make a carver gal feel good!
Tom H, thank you for the tip and I'll try it out on the next one.
Thank you, too Don...they really do make one use their imagination which is good. Don I really enjoyed seeing your 'Witch' very cool and imaginative.

Thank you both again,
Kathy

Hi Kathy: The bark wizard turned out great! I think the bark adds an element of mystery and magic. I love your bark houses. I saw these for the first time at my first carving show/comp. this spring and I was completely spellbound by them. I also checked out the three-decker on your website. Beautiful! I couldn't get signed in tho to make a comment. I'd like to learn how to do these bark houses and what type of wood to use. Any suggestions?

Leslie
