Default back from Suwanee River Woodcarvers Roundup

I just went to my first woodcarvers roundup, and it was more than I expected.
I went specifically to take a class from Peter Benson on carving relief acanthus leaves. It was amazing, and I really learned a lot. I wanted to learn how to carve relief without it looking so flat. Now, if I can do it some more, I'll be happy.

I heard that there were more in attendence than the 85 carvers last year, but I don't know how many. The weather was perfect. I saw some manatees in the spring.

I didn't take pictures, because I was too busy either carving or wandering around taking in the sites.

I bought some basswood, some cotton wood bark, and some spoon blanks.

If anyone else from this list was there, I didn't know it.
Thor

Hi Jud,
Thanks for posting the link to the photos that you took. It was fun to look through them and remember the fun I had and the people I met. There were so many nice folks there.
It was good to meet you, and I'm glad you're a shutter bug.
I am also impressed that you completed two of the projects of Peter Benson's. Most folks were lucky just to get one to a stage where they could take it home and finish it.
I was really happy with my acanthus leaf and hope to work on more soon.

Hi Thor,

"Thanks for posting the link to the photos that you took. It was fun to look through them and remember the fun I had and the people I met. There were so many nice folks there."

Typical... hehehehee...

"It was good to meet you, and I'm glad you're a shutter bug."

Thanks! I checked your web site link, but it keeps going to some girl! Nice work, but was trying to find a picture of you- I might have a shot of you working at the round up and if I could make the connection, I could send it to you. Not so good on names!

"I am also impressed that you completed two of the projects of Peter Benson's."

Whoa! I never said "completed"! I said I got what I wanted which was to learn some of the "secret" techniques! LOL! I still have to finish both, one more so than the other- by SUnday, I was a wreck! LOL! And then do each at least three more times to lock in the information. That acanthus leaf is almost totally a free style carving in actuality, so the pattern is just a jumping off point. Really getting into artistic feeling with that. Pete, not me! But after some practice... it was so great to be able to study even if only briefly with such a master!

"Most folks were lucky just to get one to a stage where they could take it home and finish it."

And do it again, and again, and again! (Sorry- teacher in me!)

"I was really happy with my acanthus leaf and hope to work on more soon."

There ya go!

So, if you have a pic of yourself, drop me a note with it at eJud2001@ Yahoo.com and I will see if I have a shot of you. I took over 300 pictures- ain't digital great???

I am a girl. I worked on an acanthus leaf for the first 2 days at Peter's tables. My most distiquishing feature is that I have fuzzy hair....if you don't remember that, then I made no impression at all...

Hi Christina,

"I am a girl."

Thor??? I *know* Thor, and Thor is a big muscular guy with this big hammer thing- runs around smashing stuff...

LOL! When I am shooting or carving, I notice nothign else- didnt' even see the event until I got home and looked at the photos! (over 300!) One cannot both record and experince an event. Anyway, did you have on a "I 'WOOD' rather be carving" Sweat shirt one day and a blue T the next? Your name is sorta tugging at me...
