Default Back to basics for me.

Not a happy bunny today, I carved a face on a stick and found that as i haven't carved for a while it's back to the beginning i go. It's a Skylar Johnston style on a birch shaft that's as hard as hell, used alcohol/water to help it a bit. Messed up the eyes TWICE so re-cutting left a very deep hollow so i cut the whole face back but i am not happy with it. Still i thought i would post it as it may help others to see they are not alone in doing a bad job.

Cheers for looking
Druid

P.S. First time for doing a lip,

Thanks for that Gary, this was one of my saved vidio's prior to my big PC crash. I will be watching it later!

Cheers!

Looks fine. Im sure when you knock the rust off, you will carve the same or better as you did when you stopped. Im kinda doing that myself, and it is frustrating, kinda forgetting how I carved something. But it will return. Mine is starting to slowly. Dont beat yourself up

Times when I have taken a carving brake I always feel like a new comer when I start up again. It does not take long to get back into it. I go back to videos and books to those basics back in my head.

Gary,
Really enjoyed your You Tube tutorial. I've been trying to learn different techniques & picked up some good ideas from you.

I find that I have to keep carving because if I don't I start to get rusty. They say practice makes perfect. I doubt I'll ever reach perfect but I keep practicing just to keep my touch.
