Hello: I recently purchased a round wooden snuff box with a carved face on it. It has the artist's signature on the corner. I believe it says "Morando" or "Maran" Something like that. I can find not information on this artist. I have attached a picture of the box. This signature is on the right side as you look at it, by his left shoulder. Please look and if anyone recognizes the artist please let me know. This box is rrreally cool. Let me know. Thanks H |

Do you know of any publication that lists or shows carvers/artists signatures? I have round snuff box with a 1800's looking man face on the lid. The piece is signed but I can not read it. Is there anywhere I can go to reseach wood artists? Thank you kindly redzin57

| ADMIN ACTION: I moved this to the General area so people could respond without moderation. I don't know of any publications that show an artist's signature...I'm sure you've already tried this, but have you done a google search on just "carved snuff boxes?" I'm sure there are collectors out there... I haven't really seen much in the way of carved snuff boxes. Bob Duncan Technical Editor |

| Edit 1 - Clearer Title... Redzin, it may be easier to find the artist if you could provide some information here. A picture would be great if possible. Other clues could be where you got the box. Otherwise, I don't know of any publications specifically related to wood artists. Nevermind.....there is a picture posted HERE > http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.co...uestion-12048/ Edit 2 - I'm merging the two threads as the information is duplicated. That is nice work on the lid. Last edited by Mitchell; 03-23-2007 at 08:37 AM. |

The wood has a tight grain and the rich reddish brown color looks like mahoganey. Again just a guess. macktruck
