| | Arrggghhh!...tool Storage!....help! I got about 7 palm tools, and recently got a Flexcut Sk108, think that is the number, 16pc set with 2 handles, I have a tackle box to carry the palm tools, strop, and a few items in, but the wooden storage don't fit the tackle box, and the space at the carving club is limited....any idea's for a storage for the flexcut tools, they are unhandled, not sure how to keep them organized, easily usable, and secure!.....HELP!.....Dennis

| | Re: Arrggghhh!...tool Storage!....help! Almost any soft bag can be used to carry the box that the flexcut set comes in. I use an old fake leather briefcase to carry it. When I get ready to carve, I take the box out of the bag, remove the box lid, and set the box on the table. Doesn't take up much room, in my opinion...

| | Re: Arrggghhh!...tool Storage!....help! I just went through this problem and solved it in two ways. I found a laptop computer tote that had lots of pockets to hold my tools and space for wood, drawings, glove and chip catcher. That one is for long stays, like a week away or a week-end. The second is a smaller travel accessories tote by Samsonite, that I use when I know I'm going to have to wait somewhere: doctors office, mall while wife shops, etc, and it just has room for a couple of knives, glove, piece to carve and ever present chip catcher.
To solve this problem of tool storage, you have to be innovative! At home, I built a tool chest, that I have already out grown, but I can add to it.

| | Re: Arrggghhh!...tool Storage!....help! Dennis, There are several murphys laws that will take over in your quest for tool storage, transport, etc. For one, no matter how many spaces you designate for tools, you will ALWAYS (within one month) have more tools than you designed for. Plus, you will never quite be satisified with what tool storage/transport you have. This is especially true if look at what others are using for tool storage and transport. It is for these reasons that I am proposing the answer to all problems that may involve too many tools for the storage/transport systems that are in use. You and others with this problem may PM me for my address. Once you receive my address all you have to do is send me your excess tools. Anybody else want in on this??? How about it Thomp? Tom H |

But actually, he's 100% correct, at least on the design aspect. I also have the interchangeable Flexcut's with over a dozen blades along with another dozen misc. palm tools and a dozen or so knives.
To start out with I bought a 12 pocket tool roll from SMWC's and soon it was filled.
Then I bought three or four canvas nail aprons from Home depot and my wife and daughter sewed pockets in them and they soon were filled.
Then I bought a large plastic Plano fishing lure box at Wally Mart and it was soon filled.
Did I happen to mention that all this storage very soon overfilled my canvas work bag that I was carrying it all in?
I think that the ultimate answer is to only transport what you actually need and use for a specific project..... but unfortunately I can never make up my mind what those tools are going to be. It's a lot like when you go fishing and have to take every lure you own because you just aren't sure what the fish are going to be biting on and you don't want to take a chance on losing one because you brought the wrong equipment!
To answer your question directly... I take craft foam and make small blade sheaths for all my tools. If you super glue around the edges they'll hold firmly on the tool and you never have to worry about having a bare unprotected blade. Then I store the sheathed blades in that 12 pocket tool roll that I was talking about.

How about a leather tool roll, keeps the tools from banging around in the tool box, (which will dull the edges).....most of the carving catalogs have 'em. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
