Default Architectural carving...

Hi everyone i've really been interested in architectural carving lately and was wondering what the best book for me would be. Im not a power carver so i would like a book on hand carving architectural pieces like the linen fold and things like that..

There is an excellent Architectural carver not to far from you in Lovingston, VA.

His name is Frederick Wilbur and he has written 2 very good books on the subject. He also has written quite a few magazine articles.

His website is http://www.frederickwilbur-woodcarver.com/

I recently purchased the book "Manual of Traditional Wood Carving" that was recommended by several respected folks on this board. It's a wonderful source of information that covers architectuaral carvings. I also got "Woodcarving Techniques & Designs" by Mike Davies, and have found it to be informative, but less inspirational ? no offence, but the writing style has to be something I can hear in my head...?

Good luck.
Thor

I just purchased both of Wilbur's books and plan to sink into them after the new year. Sure wish he would do a workshop. His work is excellent.

Frederick Wilbur was part of the WCI open house last year and did a session on professional carving. He's a neat guy and a really prolific carver, like Mark Yundt. His books are top notch. Mike Davies book has excellent examples and patterns, as does Susan Irish's book. Chris Pye's books are really useful as well. Dick Onian's book is good too. I found all of those books at my local library and started buying the ones I use a lot. Mike
