Nice looking lures Al! Those yellow and red and white ones look like genuine Hula Poppers! Let me know if what I sent helps out.

Al,
I missed this post yesterday. I like the lures that you are doing. My 16 year old son just recently started carving these. He is having a hard time finding the small rings to attach the hooks onto the lures. If you don't mind me asking where do you get these or how are you attaching the hooks.

Safe carving and God Bless,

Mark

Mark... You can usually find the split rings at Wal-Mart or any other shop that sells tackle. However, if your boy's really into carving lures then you might want to go on line to Jann's Net Craft Rod Building Supplies | Lure Making Supplies | Fly Tying Supplies | Fishing Hooks
or Barlows FISHING TACKLE for bass fishing, crappie, walleye, trout.Fishing lures, fishing hooks, lead molds. BARLOWS FISHING TACKLE. where you can buy larger quanties at a better price. Also the selection is a lot better and he can get plastic and metal bills and propellers and such.

Al... Send him those tutorials that I sent you. I'm sure that would really open up the world of lure making to his boy.

Al,
In answer to your question my son started out using scrap pieces of my bass wood. I then found a piece of cotton wood which is still light weight but a litte more dense. He is currently using a piece of Tupelo wood that a friend gave him. All of these pieces work well for him so far. I have not yet gotten the pictures down loaded but I will post them as soon as I can.

Safe Carving and God Bless,

Mark

Mark...

As your son sounds like he has already discovered, that's the beauty of using different density woods for different plugs. You can get them to sink, float and anything in between. This really comes into play when you add a bill to the front to get them to dive.
