Hey folks, still waiting for my supplies in the mail and passing the time gathering info. I was talking with my welder at work and he was telling me his grandfather was a carver. He told me his G-pop gave him a carved apple with an arrow through it. The arrow slid back and forth but was clearly to big to fit through the hole in the apple. I guess he did it by whittling the arrow then soaking or steaming it to soften it enough to slide through. Have any of you attempted anything like this? Just curious. Did you mean something like this?

Very cool. Thank you for showing me that. Did you do it with steam or just soaking? I imagine soaking takes quite a bit longer. Thank you again. Spooker |

Several steps involved. Give me some to write it up and I'll get back.

I just got the email you sent. Thank you very much for taking the time. I will wait until I get a little carving practice under my belt, but that is deffinately on the "to do" list. I had to chuckle at the "Hit it with your biggest hammer" line. My biggest currently is an 18lb head on a 13" handle. I call it "desperation" and use it to drive onery bull-pins. So maybe I'll try my third or fourth biggest hammer. Thanks again for the help. Spooker "Tell someone there's a million stars in the sky, they believe you. I did one like this except it was an heart instead of an aple. Unfortunetely the arrow tip broke and I was afraid to carve another one ever since.

Spooker-- Can you send me the instructions back? Someone else wants it and I don't want to have to draw it up again.

I've done similar ones with the heart and the arrow. I used basswood for the arrow and soaking it worked just fine.
