Hello all, I am new to wood carving and am wondering if there are any New Jersey woodcarvers here. I have been reading books and watching some you tube videos but there is nothing like actually seeing someone carve with power or hand tools. If I am not being too bold, are there any carvers here who would allow me to watch them for a bit, or maybe some folks might even give classes. If you do not want to contact me publicly in a post, feel free to email me at frankjay02@yahoo.com I live in in Somerset NJ aka Franklin Township a few miles away from Rutgers University and, New Jerseyans will understand this...ten minutes from Exit 9 on NJ Tpke. thank you Frank If you need any references before having a stranger visit, I will be happy to oblige.

Thanks Dave, I looked into a few of them and they are fairly far, time wise. In nj, as in most populated areas a 35 mile ride can take an hour and a half, depending on time of day. I commuted such a drive for 20 years. Some on that list are an hour and half on a good day. It isn't that I am adverse to driving for a good thing but I would prefer to look for something a bit closer to home first...if not, then I will take the drive. Who knows, there might be someone or club in my own backyard. Thanks again Frank I have am looking for some carving shows but on the schedule here on the site, the closet one is Delaware...that is probably 4 hours away. I will keep looking and asking though.

If you are ever in Maryland on any given weekend stop in the shop. There is always one or two of us there, lots of wood, plenty of tools and Anna usually feeds everybody. It's always informal. Goody

Hi Frank, I do know there's a woodcarving school in Wayne, that's not too far from you, if I remember right. Used to live in NJ many years ago. Mark |
