Default Any luck selling on E-bay?

Hi everyone,
Even though this is my first post I feel as though I know each of you. I've been an avid reader for many months now and have enjoyed reading all of your questions and replys.
Question...I saw a question here today about selling on E-bay. Does anyone have any success selling there? Just curious. In todays economy one has to keep options open.
In the meantine I'm uploading the screech owl that I just carved and that I've decided to use and a avatar. Each Christmas I do a new bird carving for my mother and this is this Christmas'. I'll post other birds I've carved along with other carvings later on. I tend to do a lot of birds though. Hopefully I can lend some credible advice in the months to come as you all have to me.

Thanks,
Dwayne

yea e-bay is a total crap shoot.do a search on here i posted about an art site or hand made site not long ago called etsy very reasonable rates way better than e-bay and people that do go there are looking for hand made items.
my two cents worth any way.

Glad you moved from the "readers" to the "posters".....Welcome.

Your owl is terrific. Those look like real feathers on the feet and head. What did you use for the ear tufts?

Welcome out of the lurker's closet Dwayne! I was in there for awhile before I piped up too. With several thousand members and only a few active posters I started to find it too crowded in there and decided to come on out. ;-)

Nice owl!! Good choice for your avatar. I'm not a seller myself (yet) but I'll echo what others posted - Etsy seems to be the place to sell carvings. Though Forrest seems to be having bang up success with his Wolf Charms in the wake of the Twilight craze. Maybe you could get the author to write about an Owl charm? ;-)

Cheers
ChuckT

I had those same concerns about E-bay myself just had no experience to confirm what I had thought. Thanks for the input. I've never heard of the other site mentioned. I'll go there to poke around.

Chuckt...I like the idea about asking the author to write about owls. Hmmm, maybe I should ask.

Joy...thanks for the kind words. You'll laugh, but for the tufts around the ears and feet and beak...ready for it? It's a closely guarded secret!...I cut tail fur from my 9 year old lab to use. Used epoxy to attach it in the proper places. Yep. Sure did.

It's all guard fur which makes it very course. She just happened to be the exact color I needed too. No, I didn't hurt her. I've been a dog obedience instructor for about 18 years now so I take care of my dogs better than most people take care of their children.

Thanks for the welcome. It's good to be part of the group finally.

Dwayne

Welcome to a great place and your owl is great. I am not a fan of selling carvings on e-bay. Seen some who have had great success but others who carving did not bring what they should have. Fortunantly, I have several of those carvings I have bid on.

I've never tried selling on ebay but I have been watching what sells off and on. Wood spirits sell rather well anythin else seems to be hit and miss.

Stickman,

I've been carving off and on for about 20 years (basically doing simple caricatures) but I've just found the joy of bird carving over the past couple of years. I'll post a few other's that I've done when I get some time. I like, and welcome the critiques that are given here. Always a lot of room for improvement. I do a lot of painiting and sculpting also.

I'm working on a Sharp Shinned Hawk presently. Well, after I finish my wifes manger for her nativity scene.

I absolutley love this forum. Everyone is very positive, supportive, and helpful, unlike other venues I've been a part of.

Dwayne
