Default Another Tree Carving

Hi Gang,
I am on the mend but still have a long way to go. I had put this commission off for a month now and finally decided I had better give it a try this weekend.
The carving is in the city of Orangeville, Ontario where the large maple tree's are dying. The Mayor decided rather that cut down these 100 + year old maple's he would commission carvers to carve them.
The stump is approx 15ft high and is in a sugar maple that was cut off last year. The tree's are very, very hard and carving them leaves your chisels dull very fast.
I am not sure if I will be doing any more of the trees but if I do I will let you know.
Colin

Colin, great woodspirit! I'm so happy to hear you're back to work, just don't over do it!!
Nancy, I'd stick to pickles, or better yet, to Santas if I were you. Us little old ladies need to be careful! Callynne

Callynne and Nancy,
Pickling is not just for old ladies the good lady and myself just did 38 jars last week. Thanks for nice comments yes I'm back to work but I am paying for it this morning. By the way I am planning on doing a life size santa this year I thought it would really be neat I just havent decided what one to do yet. Just think maybe I will post my first santa on the Holiday board.

Ok relax i found it,Wow great work Colin, how deep can you carve a live tree,do you have to apply a preservative /fungucide or something and are there any sites to show how these are done as i have a few old telegraph/telephone poles in the back garden just begging to be carved, come to think of it im gonna post another question asking just what to carve on them lol

Very cool, Colin! I'm glad you're back to work, but just be careful for awhile.

What are all you guys doing canning pickles?? There's carvings to be done - get to it!

Teri :-)

Once again, nice work, Colin! take care with the back. Do you have any idea what caused those trees to die off?
