Default Another Sea Captain

Yes, another Sea Captain. Seems to be a popular style of carving...especially for fisherman. This guy is approx. 5 feet tall and carved in birch. The pipe came by chance with a branch in the right place. My usual finish - a wash of acrylics, linseed oil, sealer and liquid wax.

Patrick .. your faces are wonderful .. I really like the worn face look you do to your pieces ..

I guess because I look at one in the mirror every morning

great piece Patrick

Patrick,
Nice work - very rich finish. Does the linseed oil turn bad over time?

Patrick another fabulous carvng. I cant believe you do these carvings without a chainsaw. A five foot carving with just a hammer and chisel is amazing. I couldnt imagine doing my carvings again with just mallet and chisel although I used to do them all that way until I discovered the chainsaw now you will never get me to go back.

Thanks gang. You must be tired of seeing my sea captains...I'm getting kind of tired of carving them.
Schizo - I haven't had any problems with the linseed oil. Its sealed under a satin laquor finish and satin wax so its well protected from the elements. On its own, it would darken if outside.
Forrest, you'll notice that I went with a smaller nose this time . Went with a more realistic look this time.
