| | Another of Mark G's mask Since carving the first mask, I've had many more request for this style of carving. Again, thanks to Mark G. for his support to the carving community.
I wonder if Mark G. has any idea how much he has influence many of us on this site. I learned a few things from the first mask I carved and left more wood on for the beard. I picked up a dockyard detail tool I saw Mark using in his tutorial, what a difference. I found it challenging getting the wood out with Mark's style of eyes but the new tool works wonders. The satin wax is still a little wet on this guy. He's carved in basswood like the other one I posted and is a foot high. Thanks for looking.

Skip | I'd say that Jay Leno's chin is a bit out of proportion, but that's what makes him interesting to look at inbetween jokes.
Great work Patrick... this one look's like a well weathered mountain man from the winter of 1842 to me ! |

| | Re: Another of Mark G's mask Great carving Patrick as usual you are definatly getting better. I dont agree the the mouth is too far from the nose. I think with woodspirits that nothing is etched in stone. They are woodspirits and charactures and as far as I am concerned anything goes. Sometimes I give them huge foreheads and huge eyebrows, big lips and silly looking eyes all of this I find makes them more interesting.

| | Re: Another of Mark G's mask Hi Patrick, what a terrific carving you have here. Great expression and the eyes are so realistic. You are right Mark Gargac certainly has helped a lot of us to further our carving skills. I know with each one I do I learn and improve. I bought my Dockyard gouges before I took his Creede, CO class last July. I use them all the time and I think his technique really helps one create nice eyes. I haven't tried the satin wax but plan too.
Again really nice work Patrick!
