Default Another compass stick!

As Hi-Ho posted his compass stick, here's one I did a couple years back. ed in www.picturetrail.com under other stuff. It's actually a four piece stick. The top and bottom sections are cherry burl, and the two center sections are Ironwood (hop hornbeam) Compass is recessed into the top handle.

The other stick there, is my 'working' walking stick. It is also ironwood, and tipped with a cast steel pipe cap. I've burned in my name, and our scout troop number, burned in all the hikes and campout names and dates and just about every hike I've taken of any lenght, from south of the tropic of cancer to north of the arctic circle, and added brass plates of other significant locations, and one of those copper penny stampings from Mackinac Island. I'm running out of room and will probably have to start a new 'journal' one of these days.

Very nice Al, I never heard of putting a compass in the top, that's a good idea! Callynne

Nice stick Al I have done a couple of those compass sticks and they are very popular for hikers.Again nice work I like the technique of using different woods that looks sharp.

Thanks, Colin. Â*I wish I could claim full credit for the idea of the 4 piece stick, but even though i was contemplating the project, I saw exactly this concept in Wood Magazine, and just incorporated my ideas, with theirs. Â*I didn't know where to find a compass and they listed Schlabaugh as a supplier. Â*I made and carved one with snakes and lizards and a compass for my brother, who is a herpitologist at Cal State LB.
