Default Another carving

I wanted to see if I could transfer the carving style from Mark G's tutorial onto a piece of birch. You may have seen the earlier posting where I did the same face in a piece of basswood and hollowed out the back to hang on the wall. This character is approx. 2 feet high and has the same treatment and paint job as the earlier mask I showed here...the mustache is a little different. Birch does not take up the oil and paint as well as basswood I have found so the colors in the whiskers are fainter.

Nice work Patrick. I really like the facial expression and detain on this one! Now wack off the log top and bottom and mount him on a plaque.

BTW ..... I'm heading for the Woodworking Show on Saturday. Hope to see you there.

Bob

great job Patrick, on the face, with the results turn out like that especially in a size that big its more of a sculpture, and defects are more easily corrected i suspect,,
i have never done anything that big,
keeping my tallest the camp cook of lynns.
i guess i think if i messed up that much wood in one project i would be punished from the wood spirit..

great job

Thanks everyone. This carving was more like therapy as I recently had a death in the family. I am ready to try to make a full bust now I think even though log carving is my staple. It will be interesting to see the back of the head of one of my carvings for a change.
Bob, if the weather looks good, I should be at the carving show on Saturday so I'll keep an eye out for you.

Patrick, you have got the eyes down solid. The eyes jump up and grab you. I am working on Marks Tutorial of that Spirite and doesn't look anything like that. I will probably have to start over a few times, What the heck I'm not going anywhere. Excellant Patrick. Merle
