Default Another BARK Castle

Just finished this piece. It is carved from Cottonwood bark and measures 14 x 3.5 x 2.5". The finish is "Meltonian Shoe Creams" in neutral, bark and black tints. I need to get out and harvest more bark as my supply is dwindling. To durn cold out there to hike back to my source, (2 miles). I'm practicing carving these castles for an attempt to do a rather large version. I have a blank that measures 36 x 9 x 2.75" and I don't want to screw it up.

Critiques are welcomed. Thanks and THINK-SPRING!!

Dennis

Pracuss, I like your Bark Castle looks like you did a really nice job. I like the finish you used also.
One of our carving club members carves really nice bark houses and will be teaching a class in my garage workshop next month. I've never carved a bark house before and I'm really looking forward to the experience.
He is also going to teach those that are interested how to carve them in the round. Have you done any? We'll be using Colorado bark which is thicker than our Arizona Cottonwood Bark.
Thank you, for sharing your wonderful Bark Castle.
Kathy

It's really good and I don't think you'll screw up a bigger one!

Mighty nice.....how thick was the bark when you started? I've heard of bark carving, but have never seen any in person.

Kathy; I have not tried carving in the round as yet. I have however researched the method and will try a piece soon.

Sharon, Thanks for your confidence. The larger Castle that I have in mind is so more complex than this one.

Dull Knife: The bark was 2 1/2 " thick. Doesn't get much thicker around here. Out West it gets a little thicker. I have carved some 4" bark. You can do so much more when it's thicker.

That castle needs a draw bridge on the bottom door!

Looks great Dennis, I have not carved bark yet, but would love to give it a try. You will do great on the larger piece.
