Default I am trying to carve

I am trying to carve a man with a cruel mouth no matter what I try he ends up nice? how would you describe a cruel mouth? or carve it?

perhaps very thin lips, the line between the lips being almost straight or slightly curved downward like an upside down smile, with a very slight turn down at each end... I think you should probably sketch it on a piece of paper first. Also, cruelty is in the eyes too....not just the mouth. Perhaps eyes that have narrowed in suspicion...a brow that is creased between the eyes a bit.... I am guessing here, Alice but a pencil with a good eraser and a sketch pad to try all this on first, would be helpful to you. Good luck.

Go to a mirror with a camera, make a face and take a picture. That's the way I do it. Works every time!

In cartooning the cruel mouth is thin, straight lips and the eyebrows pulled down at the bridge of the nose. Perhaps a book on cartooning would make a good reference for facial features as they tend to be simple lines.

I had to laugh ,looking into the mirror ,I see an old face, but a happy face . will not work Lynn lol but I shall try maybe when I look at my husband?????? Joke aside ,it is a good idea , the thin line Susieg ,I thought of too, I do have a book of cartoons ,never thought of looking in there

Alice... Perhaps you can't carve a cruel face because you don't have a cruel bone in your body. The mind cannot carve that which it does not know! Or so I've been told by an ancient Chinese sage! Ha! Ha!
