Exclamation ALERT !!! "Other" carving magazine board ???

I just visited the Carving Magazine message board and got a terrible black page with some message about the site being "defaced" with WebRoot ????

I have lots of virus protection but it still scared the heck out of me. I suggest you NOT visit this site for awhile. If you have and saw this or didn't see it, I'd sure appreciate knowing about it.
I've checked Symantec and can't find anything about "WebRoot".

That site has been hacked for about three days, now Nancy. It doesn't seem that you can get the flu from visiting there, but they surely did get shut down. Hope they can get back soon...that site is struggling to get traction as it is. There has been an addition to the original hack today...the first black page just had the first line on it, so some jerk must still be messing with it. Some people just need to get a life!

The site defacement only effects the site and will not hurt your machine. It was caused by a trojan (similar to a virus) that went around the WWW the past week screwing up sites using the PHPBB software application. Because of it's "success" you can expect other boards to be hit in the future. If I remember right, the total was something like 7500 PHPBB sites had been hit in less then a week from a self attacking application that was released.

And I used the incorrect term .... I said it's "WebRoot", and that's the title of one of my spy-ware blockers. Carving Magazine's site was defaced by "WebWorm".
Sorry for the error.

I wish Jerry would wake up so we could open presents ~sigh~

IT was a random attack against any board using PHPBB forums. Once it was released, it used the Google search engine to find other boards to attack, and each of the other boards did the same thing - self replication. It took several hours for the bug to be analized and Google notified about the problem beofre it was stopped.
