Default Alabama woodcarving retreat

Hi everybody,
I'm in the process of setting up a five day carving class (taught by me,) at Camp McDowell, (which is an hour northwest of Birmingham, AL) and I'm posting this to see if anyone is interested in taking it.

What,
A four day class taught by me, (Dylan Goodson.) There would be 24 to 34 hours of class time depending on how hard you work, and if you carve in the evening. You would have a choice of a couple of different projects. See the attached pictures.
Father Christmas
Female Head
European style Saint
Pictorial relief scene
And possibly a Native American Bust
It would be possible to do other projects if you let me know before hand.

Where,
Camp McDowell, Camp McDowell Main Page is located a little north of Jasper, AL. It's a neat place and I always found that it was restful, you might even say magical the times that I've been there. They have hotel style rooms and you can get all your meals in the dinning hall. There's no phone, no tv and only limited cell phone reception, They have internet at the office, but not in the rooms. So that means that there are no distractions.

When,

September 12-16

Price,
Tuition $160 + materials(Cost of the wood) depending on project $10-$30
Plus one of the following:
Shared Room & Meals: $255
Private Room & Meals: $355
Commuting (lunch & supper, daily): $80

So any takers? Let me know if your interested. I'll be posting more information here, and on my website as details get worked out and I get them written up.

Dylan

Good luck Dylan, like Paul, I live to far away to attend. You have shown some very nice carvings for the classes. Follow your dream and as always,

Thanks for the bump Paul. I'm actually going to be up your way next May. I'll be teaching at the Michigan Wood Carver's Annual Learning Seminar in Midland.

Kadiddle, I've got one lady that is going to fly in from California. So don't give me that "I live too far away" excuse.

Hey guys, and ladies,
I've put the information up on my website (Old Oak Enterprises) on the classes page. (Scroll down to the bottom to see it.) I've put a registration form on there that anyone who wants to take the class will need to fill out.

Hey folks,
I want to update y'all on some of the carving retreat information.

We'll be able get into the lodge late Sunday afternoon, (the 11th,) so if you're coming from out of town I suggest that you arrive Sunday evening. That way we can start carving first thing in the morning.

Of course this means that you'll have to pay for another night's lodging, ($76) and if you get there by 6pm you can have dinner with us at the Camp.

I've attached pictures of a clay model that I did for the Native American Bust project, and I want to show y'all the bust that one of my students at the Southeastern Woodcarving School did from this design. He's only been carving for six months, and this is what he accomplished is two and a half days. So just think how far you will get in five!
