Hello, it's been awhile since I last posted. About the time this switched over to the new format. anyway my Dad wants me to start airbrushing my Decoys. He went so far as to buy me a used Sears and Roebuck airbrush and small air compressor. I don't know the first thing about airbrushing. My question to you fine people is there a good book out there that can help, or a web site. I really apprcieate all the help you provided me in the past. Thank you.

Gergie, I am sure there are wood working books on airbrushing. But I would suggest that you also check out RC hobbiest, I think it is still being published or check a local hobby store that sells RC cars. RC models are all about airbrushing , from the primmer coat to lacing the pin stripes. They go into great detail , about eveything from over spray to building desktop spray traps As a resource they are pretty awesome. Ash |

Gergie, try looking for "The Complete Airbrush and Photo-Retouching Manual" by Owen and sutcliff. Northern Light Books for about 25 bucks at Borders. I haven't found ANY books detailing the use of an airbrush for birds or other carved animals, but there are several books on fish carving that have chapters on using the airbrush. The book I mentioned has a lot of good basic information, but does not translate well to applying paint to carved figures with an airbrush. Good techniques that you must aquire are in there though, but it's going to be up to you to apply those techniques to your carvings. Some of those techniques include masking, shading, using vignets, mixing colors, use of spatter, highlight additions, types of masks to use and a whole plethora of other good stuff. Lots to learn and it takes practice. I'm stil lnot too good at it but it is interesting to keep trying. Al Last edited by AlArchie; 09-13-2006 at 07:24 AM. |

Thanks, I went to google and found a few books that had chapters on airbrushing. Al Archie I'll try and find that book. And check out the hobby stores. There is a guy where my Dad lives that does airbrushing if I get back there I'll check with him. Thanks for the advice, and the comment on the Eagle carving. Now another question.. How do I get the picture next to my name? Thanks.
