Thx. for the tips Al...do you have a single or double action airbrush? I have a single action but from what I've read the double is a better unit.

Yes, double action is definatley better for detailing. Single action is o.k. for covering a large area though. I've got both and I only use my single action for painting models.

I've yet to use an airbrush on any of my carvings. I've used it for Illustrating, before these darn computers took over. I like the effect I get with the brush on the birds I carve, but I'm working on a Rainbow Trout right now and I do plan to airbrush that.

Same as Chris, I have both. single action is a little easier to use, but gives you less control, also my single action is a cheap Chinese, no-name, but is easily repaired, if you don't need parts, cuz ya can't get em.

I have both Badger and Pasche brushes, but I haven't used the Badger yet. The Pasch works great. I think both make 'turbo' models for a lot more cash, but I haven't had the drive to try one of those yet.

Hey Al,

I've also got a Paasche. I found this site http://www.paascheairbrush.com/part_sheets2003.html
Keep it handy, it has parts breakdowns for all of their products. Also http://www.paascheairbrush.com/ is good.

Luckily, I've got an art store near me that, the last time I checked, carried parts for mine. Who knows for how long though. :

This is a little wierd tip on getting the best value for the money.....when I bought my Badger air brush, I found a 'Nail Kit' for airbrushing women's fingernails Â*(I suppose a guy could do that, too, but I caught enough flak just buying it).

This is the exact same model number as the regular one and has all the standard accessories, but sold for 20 bucks less, and I got some masking material and other various odds and ends with it. Â*Plus I got it at a Michael's craft store and used one of their 50% off coupons that come in the mail after you register there. Â*A lot of these craft stores offer these coupons, usually in a flyer that comes with 10,20,30,40, and 50% off on any one item. Â*I've even seen one for 60% off, but I wasn't going to Duluth to look over the stock!

Check the art and craft store flyers or stop in .....be surprised what ya might find!

I've had my Pache airbrushes for about 8 years and mostly use them for doing fish. I have a single action (which I use mostly for large areas) and double action (which I use mostly for small, detail areas.) I don't use them much--so have to relearn the 'touch' each time I pull them out for use. By no means would I be considered an expert, but at least I'm not afraid to experiment with them.

I shopped around for good prices on them and actually found the best price at WASCO, a taxidermy supply catalogue that has a website. They also carry both petroleum based-and water-based paints of excellent quality. There is another taxidermy supply catalogue that has them with comparable prices, but I've always been please with WASCO (and I get my good fish eyes from them too) and stay with them. If I remember right, they were about 1/3 less than prices at comparable hobby stores.

I want to airbrush some carved flowers next--hopefully before spring! I think the detail and highlights on the petals--if done with an airbrush--would be awesome!
