*WHEW* After 4 long months of not being motivated to carve, something finally sparked within me and I've been at it again! I missed it so much and it was unbelievably frustrating not being inspired. I even tried forcing myself, thinking it might get me back into it.....it didn't work. So, not only am I back to carving, but am starting off by trying something I've never done before, attaching arms onto the body as opposed to carving them into the body. I've wanted to do this for over a year now, but didn't have the guts to try. Hopefully, it'll turn out. I'll be sure to post pics when I'm done. It's so great to be back, what a relief!! |

jillsy, good for you! Remember this episode, and remember you got past it. If/when it happens again, don't get stressed; let it pass and learn from it. Welcome back. Mike

This same thing happened to me also. I could not shake it off for so many months. I think I was depressed? I started again a couple of weeks ago. I am also going to try to add the arms and legs to some of my carvings. I am going back to some of the carvings I've done and redo them. Hope you are back on track now Jillsy as I hope I am too. I thought for awhile I might quit altogether but I like carving too much. I sure did a lot of crossword puzzles during my time away from carving. I am glad to hear that someone else has/had the same problem. Lets hope it is finally resolved. Thank You

DART! I just made a major first-timer mistake trying to attach arms to a piece. Thanks to Susieq and Lynn, I shouldn't make that mistake again. If you've never attached arms before don't do what I did - I carved the body and then the arms and am now trying to attach them. It's not looking good. I'll have to do some patchwork on this. I'm not happy it, of course, but I just look at it as one more thing I've learned on this board (thank you!!) Instead of carving the entire body, carve out most of it, but leave the shoulder area and where the arms will attach. For the arms, carve out about up to the elbow. Now you'll have two flat pieces to attach to each other. Once they're attached and the glue has dried, THEN go ahead and carve the rest out. If I didn't word that right, please, anyone feel free to correct me as I just learned this myself today! Jillsy |

When you finsh with Mrs. Clause, Jillsy, you will be amazed at how great she looks. It's nice to learn from the mistakes of others but the mistakes you make yourself and learn from....you NEVER forget. I can't wait to see her finished. |

Welcome back Jillsy. I am about to attach some arms on a WIP posting called Street Scene I am doing. It will happen in about 2 weeks, probably a little too late for you but thought I'd give you a heads up on what is upcoming in the post. Jim OH |

I understand what you are saying , Jillsy. To join the two pieces to each other there must be a flat place on each part for the glue-up to work right. Then "blend" the arm to the body. Great to be back carving!
