Default Advertising on the forum

Hello everyone,
I'm writing about advertising on the forum. In most cases, when someone plugs a retailer as a great person to buy a tool or wood from--it's from personal experience and offered as a service to the other members. It is also personalized!

Over the weekend, a person posted what appeared to be a form letter--apparently cut and pasted into the forum--that was quite extensive. I don't agree with that sort of advertising. I'm sure everyone will agree that we personalize our opinions and advice. If someone posts on the board that they are an expert and can help or offer advice--more power to them! But personalize it and be on hand to help out when people ask questions.

For future reference, if we get more advertising like this, the administrators or moderators may remove the post without any notice. If you see advertising, feel free to notify us!

By the way, this doesn't mean that people can't suggest that someone buy Rick's beginner's kit. I just don't want people cutting and pasting their advertisement into our forum. If you want to advertise something, drop me a line and we'll work something out! But word of mouth advertising (get swiss made tools here, Ramelson tools are great, etc) is totally fine.

I check out a lot of other message boards (groups, etc.) and I've seen a lot that have gone to seed--full of cut and paste advertising--along the lines of our now infamous Russian Ladies. I just don't want that to happen to our board!

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Sounds fair enough to me and that's why I'd like to "personally" reccomend Woodcarving Illustrated to everyone! Smile

Thumbs up Re: Advertising on the forum

Great! Speaking for myself, I get bombarded enough with advertisements. I'd appreciate not getting hit with them while trying to learn more about wood carving.

Thanks, Bob. Keep up the great work on this website!

i agree the forum is not the place to advertise in the manner it was done,a brief note would have been more appropriate.

Thanks Bob, we appreciate you looking out for us! I know I'm very interested in personal opinions on products, places to buy them and good people to deal with. But I sure would not like to see advertising like that done here. Thanks again! Callynne

I'm sure one day we will receive a message from outerspace and it will be about mortgage refinancing. Good Job Bob.

Totally agree if people want to sell their products they can pay for the service. I also get all this garbage email with people wanting to sell me something. So I am with the rest thankyou for taking it off the board.

I agree with all of the above. I get way to much advertising as it is without having to put up with it here.
Thanks Bob, I appreciate it!!!
